A First-Time Experience in Las Vegas: My Journey

No trip to Nevada is complete without a stop in Las Vegas, a city that promises unforgettable experiences. I had never been, and Mark had promised to take me forever. In general, I’m not a big-city type of girl, but Vegas is an exception. I like playing slots and going to shows, so Vegas was on my bucket list. Death Valley is only about 100 miles from Vegas, so it was a short travel day in the RV.

We arrived early on a Friday, making it the perfect day to get the Vegas experience and see as much as possible. I had bought tickets to Mad Apple at the New York New York casino. It is one of the Cirque du Soleil shows, a franchise I visit whenever possible. We had booked a spot at the Las Vegas RV Resort, so it was only minutes from downtown, making it easy to explore. However, we knew traffic and parking would be horrible. I’ve used Uber all over the country in my travels, so we scheduled one to pick us up at the RV resort and take us downtown. It is almost impossible to explore the city in one day; practicality requires doing it by sections. We were dropped off at New York-New York, which put us in the middle of the MGM properties and close to the show we were going to see. We planned to come back during the day on Saturday to explore more of the city. All the casinos are huge properties with plenty to see at each. We had a pre-show beer at Nine Fine Irishmen and wandered around the casino looking into the various shops and venues.

Our tickets for the show were excellent. We were in the second row from the stage, which turned out to be fortuitous later. If you’ve never been to a Cirque du Soleil show, you’ll find a blend of music, dance, circus acts, and magic that creates a vibrant, entertaining atmosphere. It makes for a very well-rounded show, fun for everyone.

The show was everything I expected, with an additional twist. When the magician came out, he was looking for someone in the audience to help him on stage. When he picked Mark, it made my night. Those of you who know Mark know he’s pretty funny on his own merit. But when he started interacting with the magician, it was hilarious. It was a great night, and we both had a lot of fun. We took an Uber back to the resort, ready to do more exploring the next morning. Our Uber driver was from El Salvador, and we really enjoyed talking to him. He told us his favorite Salvadoran food was Pupusas, which we had never heard of. He gave us the name of a local Salvadorian restaurant so we could discover it for ourselves.

When we got up Saturday morning, it was raining hard. So we will have to come back later to cover more sections of the city.
